Need a new Video Editing Computer

Donation protected

Hello Internet,

By trade, I am a Linux Server Administrator, so I am well versed in the world of tech, but not very much in the world of social media, or social functions period. This is what makes it hard to ask the public for funding, I have no idea where to start, how to ask, or what to ask for. So I will start with the basics, a bit of a backstory, why I am asking for Funding, and then a brief layout of what it is I am looking for.

As mentioned I am a Linux Server Admin by trade, but in my off time, I dabble in just about everything. I have been a webmaster for friends, a web server administrator for family, a Graphic Designer for those looking for a new logo, and I even dabble in Photography and Videography from time to time. All of my interests have one thing in common, a good quality computer makes it much easier. The problem is I don't have a good workstation. Currently, I am running off an entry-level laptop, that more often than not makes processing anything more time consuming and tedious. When I had a more powerful system (which is now dead after 6 years of extraneous use) I was able to get jobs done at a good pace, however trying to render videos on my laptop now takes three to four times as long, and sometimes causes dropped frames, or worse, crashes part way through.

I used to be able to offer my skills to friends in need, but in recent past have had to turn them down as I just do not have the proper equipment, helping my friends used to be fun as I could make a weekend project out of it, but with the processing power I currently have, a weekend project ends up being a month long. The fun aspect has become tedious and unenjoyable. Having to wait 6 hours for a minute long video to render is painful knowing that it would take mear minuted with a proper system.

So why am I asking for funding? I am a skilled Linux Admin, surely I must be making more than enough to buy my own equipment? And In most cases, you'd be right, but sadly I still live paycheck to paycheck like most middle-income families, after shelter, bills, and necessities, I am lucky if I can rub two toonies together and put it into savings. Most people say you should have 6 months rent saved up, I have, if I am lucky, and do not have to dip into my savings, a month at most at any given time. So saving up for a $2500 computer system is no easy task. This is where you come in.

Although the computer system |I am looking at building is ~$2600, I know I can save $600 on some parts, but I still need $2000 to get my system back up and running so I can once again help others.

But again, it comes down to asking for a handout, and where it feels particularly strange for me. I mean asking for money with no return is no easy task these days. You have those who are hard-hearted and would not give a cent to save their own mother, and then you have those who have given so much before but have been conned out of their savings because they are too trusting. So where does that leave us? All I can say is that I will be very transparent with my project, I have blogged about what I am looking for in a PC (https://www.considerednormal.com/2017/11/in-need-of-a-new-computer-and-its-going-to-take-a-year-to-build-it/) and am currently trying to improve the price of the computer parts I am looking for. But it all comes down to you, the person who is willing to give up a few dollars for a good cause. All I can offer you is my eternal gratitude for helping me get back the joy I find in life by helping others and the knowledge that you helped an honest person meet their goal.

I will be very grateful and appreciative to anyone who can spare a few $ towards my goal. Every bit helps.
