Support Detroit & Flint Area Kids

Hello, everyone! My name is Amani Johnson. I'm a Senior at Central Michigan University and also the Assistant Director for a Michigan nonprofit called http://packyourback.org/ . We provide backpacks and school supplies for underprivileged students; this is our second year in operation!
Here are photos from our 2016 Flint Distribution, where we had school supplies available for 500 students:
This summer, our goal is 1,500 students! We've been working extremely hard to raise funds for our two distributions happening in Detroit and Flint this summer and I'm proud that we've been able to raise around $3,000 this year to purchase backpacks and school supplies for thousands of deserving kids. However, we still are in need of $3,000 more before our distributions on August 6th (Flint) and 12th (Detroit).
Pack Your Back started during a brainstorming session in a residence hall room at Central Michigan University. My peers, who were involved before I was, understood that education is the most important tool in determining the future success of a child.
I, along with the rest of our team, believe in the power of education. While we help relieve the financial burden placed on students and families, we are also doing the same for our educators. Teachers make far less than they deserve but are often pressured to purchase supplies for their own students. Our goal is to make education easily accessible by starting with one simple gesture: giving away school supplies.
At our distributions, we display school supply bundles and backpacks as you might see them in the store to provide a genuine shopping experience:
Much of our cost has been offset by companies and organizations hosting donation drives on our behalf.
We hope that you'll see and understand how important this cause is. You're not just making a donation, but investing in the future of thousands of Michigan students. Students should come prepared to school, but sadly that's not a reality for everyone. Help us change that one student at a time. Every little bit helps and as we like to say, it costs $11 to pack a back.
