Help a Neighbor in Need!
Donation protected
This is a fundraiser for Patricia and LaDon, an older Black couple who have done odd jobs around the neighborhood for many years. They are currently in a difficult situation and would appreciate any support.
Having lived for the past 18 years at the Belmont Village apartments at 1423 12th Avenue South with a Section 8 voucher, they recently have been told that their lease will not be renewed and that they must move out by Jan 31. [Update: They received a two-week extension to Feb 10.] They need to find a new place to live and need funds for the first month's rent, security deposit, and utility bills, among other moving/storage/temporary housing expenses. All affordable housing units in Nashville have waiting lists and there is no emergency housing available besides shelters so finding a new place has proved challenging.
Patricia and LaDon currently receive disability and social security but have exhausted their resources because of having had to pay for two storage units for their household items and having had a recent infestation.
Patricia formerly worked in a nursing home, and LaDon for a building company. Patricia has a mental illness and is taking medication; changes like this make her unstable.
They allowed me to share this information which they communicated to me. I find their story to be trustworthy and their situation to be quite desperate. We have interacted with them over several years as have many neighbors. We will transfer any funds donated to them. They have asked that we manage the funds received; we will post receipts/updates to this page.
