I survived a plane crash, COVID then thieves ransacked my Perth home
Channel 7 article can be viewed here
Hi,
I am Diya Shivlani. I moved to Australia in 2007 and I call Perth home. Both my husband and myself work very hard to provide for our kids and our parents. Earlier this year I was in an unfortunate plane crash along with my husband and 4 year old child. I ended up with a broken vertebrae in my spine and my husband also suffered injuries. For two months I was in a brace, unable to work as usual and with limited income. I ended up having severe anxiety during the course of the two months as I had limited mobility and couldn't work or leave the house unassisted. At the end of the two months I still have immense amount of pain which I continue to deal with as I recover. I am currently seeing multiple health professionals for my physical and mental health to deal with the depression and flashbacks.
We then got COVID and have finally recovered from it. Given the turmoil we have undergone this year, we decided to use the credit we had from a booking made last year for my husband 40th birthday and did a weekend trip away.
On our return we found our house had been broken into and all our valuables and my dad who lives with us, his savings have been stolen. This is the third time we have been broken into, except this time they managed to enter our house and steal everything, including family heirlooms. Me and the kids are absolutely shaken. I feel so helpless dealing with one calamity after another. I had saved the family heirlooms for my children for their future and they have been stolen along with the memories they came with.
Any contributions will go towards initiatives to improve the security in Bull Creek. We have had multiple break-ins and will now need to spend additional funds on increased security for the house. Just this weekend there have been three burglaries in Bull Creek, some when the owners were present in the house. I will work with the local government on targeted initiatives to improve the security of the suburb so no child needs to wake up in the morning and ask in absolute fear if the burglars will kidnap them from their rooms the next time.
Thanks,
Diya Shivlani
