Help Leo get top surgery
Donation protected
Hello everyone, I am reaching out to you today to share my personal journey and ask for your support in helping me on this transformative path towards gender affirmation. I have created this GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for my top surgery and I kindly request your support in making this a reality.
My name is Leo and growing up, I have always felt like I am stuck in a body that doesn't quite fit with who I truly am. For as long as I can remember I was always extremely
uncomfortable being labelled as a girl and wearing dresses and other ‘feminine clothing’
At the age of 8, I started to go through female puberty. This was a very traumatising and confusing time for me as I knew I was a boy but I didn’t understand why I had a ‘girl’s body’.
After many years of confusion I came out to mum and made an appointment with my GP. In 2017, my referral was sent to the Tavistock Gender Clinic. In 2020, I was finally seen. However, due to being under 18 all I could do was wait. I received heavy counselling with the GIC to ‘make sure I was truly trans’. I always wanted to walk out crying and as I knew I was so far away from medically transitioning.
I am currently on the waiting list for the adult clinic.
At the age of 17 (soon 18), I made the decision to pursue a gender-affirming surgery that will enable me to live as my true, authentic self.
Unfortunately, these surgeries are crazy expensive. Prices can include: the actual operation, the checkups before and after, medication, even just getting there and back.. Your support will help me make this big change happen, and I'll be so thankful for it.
Not only do I struggle with breathing in the binder I wear for more than 6 hours a day, I struggle with upper back, neck, rib and shoulder pain. Wearing a binder is extremely uncomfortable and debilitating. The side effects of chest binding can be fatal and can cause serious problems such as broken or bruised ribs and a buildup of fluid in the lungs just to name a few.
By contributing to this campaign, you will help me in the following ways:
1. Surgical Procedures: Your generous support will assist in covering the expenses associated with gender-affirming surgeries, pivotal in aligning my physical body with my authentic gender identity.
2. Pre-operative and Post-operative Care: These procedures entail comprehensive medical evaluations, consultations, and follow-up appointments. Your contribution will ensure that I receive optimal care throughout the entirety of this journey, from preparatory measures to post-surgical recovery.
3. Emotional Support and Well-being: Transitioning encompasses a profound emotional journey, underscored by the importance of a robust support network. Your kindness will not only alleviate financial constraints but also foster the emotional resilience necessary to navigate this transformative phase in my life.
4. Advocacy and Awareness: Through your participation in this campaign, you actively champion awareness surrounding gender affirmation and extend solidarity to the transgender community. Your support amplifies a resounding message of inclusivity and empathy to society at large.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and considering supporting my journey.
