Shaun's Top Surgery
Donation protected
Shaun is a beautiful, vibrant, ray of sunshine. Since meeting them, they have become easily the best part of my life - they are so special, kind-hearted, generous, and open; they've become a big part of my family, and a precious part of our friend group. They make those around them better.
As a Black, non-binary individual, they have overcome an immense amount of hurdles to live authentically - however, the next big step is to undergo Gender Affirmation Surgery (particularly, Top Surgery), to remove and reconstruct their chest.
Top Surgery, if publicly funded, still requires an out of pocket cost of nearly $3000 and an average of 182-week wait time (a little over three years). When done privately, Top Surgery can cost anywhere from $8000-$10,000 but has a significantly shorter wait time. This does not include the loss of wages, for taking time off work to heal. As you can imagine, the price-tag on such a procedure (private and public) is highly inaccessible.
Shaun: "For years I’ve struggled with accepting the body I was born in. I’ve struggled a lot with my mental health, but have finally come to terms with the fact that I am the way I am and I’m happy with it. I have gone through so many different changes, positives and negatives. In order to continue growing and becoming myself, I need to complete Top Surgery. I appreciate everyone’s support in helping me get to where I want to be! Anything would help :)"
