The people of Yemen are desperately in need of help. Their nation has been at war since 2015, and Yemen was already the poorest country in the Middle Eastern and North African region. The combination of war, flooding, cholera, famine, and COVID 19 has made the situation of the Yemeni people a dire one. The constant fighting has destroyed their infrastructure, taking away their livelihood, undermining their healthcare system, and destroying their food production. This has unleashed one of the worst humanitarian crises of our decade. In 2017, the UN declared the situation in Yemen to be one of the world's largest humanitarian disasters, and things have not improved since then.
Yemeni Situation Quick Facts-
- An already impoverished people have no way to provide for themselves.
- Their infrastructure, economy, and healthcare system is undermined.
- They are facing a serious and long lasting famine.
- Flooding and war has displaced many people from their homes.
- Poor water resources have resulted in 1.26 million cases of cholera, one of the worst outbreaks of cholera in the world.
- 10.3 million children do not have enough food to eat.
- As of 2017, 2.2 million Yemeni children are acutely malnourished.
- 70% of children do not have access to clean water and sanitation.
- 27 million are in desperate need of food, medicine, water and shelter.
Now, in 2020, a people dealing with an already acute disaster are facing the pandemic of COVID 19. The Yemeni people have very little ability to fight this pandemic and desperately need your help.
