Keeping My Head Above Water

Hey, my name is Paul, and I’ve been trying to avoid this. Perhaps for too long, making matters worse. After all, no one likes to ask for help. Particularly for financial help. I’ve had to do so before and was desperately trying not to do so again.

I’m a professional writer, but paid writing gigs have been few and far between in the last few years. Likewise, I haven’t had much luck looking for “normal” jobs. The various items I’ve been able to sell off haven’t helped a great deal. So bills have piled up and car repairs & maintenance that needs doing hasn’t been done. Which makes finding the aforementioned “normal” jobs more difficult, at least here in Metro-Detroit.

“Can’t your family help out?” Thing is, I’m unmarried, so I don’t have a spouse bringing in another income. Nor is my not-especially-large extended family in a position to provide the degree of assistance I need. So I’m reaching out to friends, acquaintances, and even strangers, hoping for a lot of small donations to get my head above water and keep me afloat until I can flag down a passing ship. By that, I mean find paying work.
