Nazareth Housing Giving Tuesday
Tax deductible
COVID has unleashed a firestorm that tests the fortitude and resilience of all New Yorkers. Every social safety net has been stretched to its limits: healthcare, childcare, nutrition, housing, financial security. The razor-thin margin between family well-being and poverty has never been more evident.
Nazareth Housing has been at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic response since day one, never closing its door and stepping forward to meet the critical needs that broke open as the pandemic ravaged our city. As inflation drives up the cost of groceries, Louise’s Pantry fills a critical need by providing fresh produce, meat, dairy and dry goods to nearly 400 families every week. This month Louise’s Pantry distributed nearly 1,000 Thanksgiving boxes that included turkeys, fresh produce, dairy and more to families in the Bronx and Lower East Side so that they may celebrate the holiday with their loved ones.
As New Yorkers lost their jobs and fell behind on rent, Nazareth Housing secured $440,000 in Emergency Rental Assistance Program (ERAP) funds to clear rental arrears and keep families housed. Our eviction prevention team works every day to help families stay stably housed and avoid shelter. Sadly, the eviction moratorium ends in January 2022 with more than 70,000 cases pending in Housing Court. But where the moratorium ends, Nazareth Housing’s work is just beginning.
On this Giving Tuesday, we ask that you join the global movement of giving and support Nazareth Housing’s life affirming work. Your donation sustains programs designed to end and prevent homelessness and break the cycle of poverty. Nazareth Housing has served vulnerable communities in the Lower East Side and Bronx for decades through many crises and challenges. As we emerge from the pandemic, Nazareth Housing will continue to do what it has done for decades: open its doors to all, transform lives, and unlock the full potential of each and every individual.
