David's Recovery

Donation protected
On December 24th David suffered from a massive heart attack. He was was acting normal throughout the day/evening and then mentioned something about a toothache and his jaw hurting. We didnt think anything of it. We went about our family dinner and opening presents. When it was time for people to start leaving he started throwing up but that was again a normal thing...or so we thought. The last group of people were about to head out and David came out to say goodbye to the rest of the family and then he disappeared to throw up again and all of a sudden we heard a bang in the back bedroom. We went to check on him where he was found unresponsive and not breathing. My mom and aunt started CPR INSTANTLY while we waited for paramedics to arrive. After 30 minutes of CPR then paramedics arrived and they sent an ambulance and helicopter. They finally got his heart started and got ready to airlift him when his heart stopped again. They shocked him and got it going. Before arriving at the U of M his heart stopped a total of 3 times. Once they got him to the hospital they took him to the cath lab and found that his main artery was 100% blocked. They put a stint in and opened the artery back up. Once the stint in place they took him into surgery to place a bypass machine to give his heart a break. Yesterday his heart was averaging 70 BPM and today they were able to turn the machine down enough see what he can do on his own. Hes averaging around 110 BPM which is a little high but very good considering the trauma its endured. Currently they have him in a medically induced coma and did have him in a paralyzed state while the machine is on but plan on waking him up tomorrow after the bypass is removed. He has a balloon in his chest to assist his heart with blood circulation which they plan on taking out Friday at some point. The only main area of concern is the swelling in his brain. We wont know much until they have him awake to see what will happen with that. I plan to keep everyone updated on here as to what's going on to avoid some calls as much as possible while we are up here and also to avoid any miscommunication there might be as to what's happening and what isnt. I created this page to hopefully get some kind of Financial burden lifted for my mom since she wont be able to work and we now have to fight with unemployment because he cant work so funds will be extremely limited. We've been driving back and forth the last 3 days and having to pay for parking every day is going to add up quickly and is very expensive. He will he here a minimum of 3 weeks but sounds more like 6 weeks. We're at the U of M in the east bank but keeping visitors limited with the exception of immediate family. So if you want to visit please contact me or my mom directly for approval. Again any help is most definitely appreciated.
