Support the Berger Family

Please help the Berger family following the loss of their beloved husband and father, Scott. In early November, Scott, Jenny, and their children, Andrew (13) and Sophia (11), received the devastating news that Scott was diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive terminal brain cancer. Sadly, several weeks of chemo and radiation were unsuccessful in combating this cancer and shortly after Christmas, Scott ended up in the hospital. Just a week later, his battle was over and Scott passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on January 5th.
Born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, Scott was deeply rooted the Truckee/Tahoe area, having arrived in 2000 to live the ski bum dream after graduating from the University of Michigan. He worked various jobs in those early years including for Squaw Valley security, Squaw Valley Electric, and in construction. With plans to marry and have a family, he and Jenny returned to Scott's native Ohio to live near family, but his heart always yearned to come back to Tahoe. They made the move back to Truckee five years ago, eventually building their dream home and establishing even deeper roots in the community.
Scott was a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. There was not a bad bone inside his body and he was always willing to lend a hand. He will always be remembered as "such a good guy." As his family adjusts to facing each day without their beloved Scott, we have created this GoFundMe in response to numerous requests from people seeking to help out so that the family can focus on grieving. Scott was a dedicated family man and a hard worker who always did the right thing to provide for his family, but no one can be fully prepared for a loss this sudden and unexpected during the prime of their lives. Please help if you can to defray the cost of medical, funeral, and household expenses that will help Jenny, Andrew, and Sophia remain in their home — the home in which Scott and Jenny thought they'd grow old in — near the good friends they have made.
Update as of Jan. 14: As doctor and hospital bills start coming in, the Bergers are looking at upwards of $200,000 owed in medical expenses, so we have increased the goal so as to take pressure off of them. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. We are floored by your generosity and words cannot express our gratitude for your support of this upstanding family.
