I have met so many wonderful people in the West Michigan bourbon community in the last year and many of you know Shannon Drake, from stopping into the Grand Rapids Mega-Bev store. She is always there, and always smiling and talking to customers. I've gotten to know her pretty well over the last year, and she recently told me some things going on in her personal life and it's heartbreaking. I've never started a GoFundMe for anyone before, but my heart is telling me Shannon is someone who needs and deserves our help. Shannon has been a single mom for most of her son's 19 years and the sole financial provider for them as well. She has no siblings and her parents and grandparents all passed in the mid-2000s, so she's all alone besides her son. She's been battling blood clotting issues for many years and was recently diagnosed with leukemia, and the long-term prognosis is not very good. And she's battling the side effects of her chemo pills daily. On top of dealing with these medical issues, when her car insurance company found out she had a teenager, they added him to her policy on her 2018 Impala and her rate jumped way past what she could afford, so she had to go down to plpd to get her rate down to keep from being dropped. Then some jerk stole her car! So now she is paying a car payment on a car that she doesn't have, and she now has to get rides from her son and her friends every day to get to and from work at Mega-Bev. I honestly don't know how she's holding up with all of these things going on in her life, but every time I see her, she's still smiling! We have 2300+ members in just the GRBC group alone. If you could all find it in your heart to donate even just $10, she could pay off her old car loan and keep from having to file bankruptcy and be able to buy a car to get herself back and forth to work each day and take that burden off her son and friends. She would be forever grateful for your generosity
