Holiday Books for Low-Income Students

This year, our annual Holiday Book Fair is dedicated to the

memory of James Phang, father, friend and longtime supporter of The Foundation Schools who passed away from cancer in January 2023.

How will my donation be used?

Your donation will provide the gift of free, new, and current books to our

students with emotional disabilities and autism at The Foundation Schools

Holiday Book Fair, hosted December 11-15, 2023.

Who will my donation benefit?

Students with emotional disabilities in grades K-8 at The Foundation

School in Largo, MD and The Foundation School of Montgomery County in

Gaithersburg, MD, and students with autism at The Foundation Learning

Center in Landover, MD.

Why should I donate to the Holiday Book Fair Drive?

The Foundation Schools is a collection of four K-12 nonprofit schools that

provide a specialized learning environment for children with emotional

disabilities, autism, and social, emotional, and learning challenges. 80% of

our students live in low-income homes and many more come from

disadvantaged families, so their parents do not have the financial resources

to pay for books or support PTA-type fundraising. Therefore, the funding of

the Holiday Book Fair depends on your efforts.

What kind of books will my donation fund?

The books provide recreational reading as a supplement to instruction. The

more fun our students have reading, the more likely they are to improve

their reading skills. Student favorite books include Diary of a Wimpy Kid,

Dog Man, Plants vs. Zombies, Pokemon and Lego characters, cars,

technology, and superheroes.
