Help Susan Maldonado Beat This Brain Tumor

Susan Maldonado is a loving wife and mother and small business owner in the Wake Forest community of North Carolina. As an active member of the local community and the Wake Forest Farmer's Market, many have come to know Susan's warm heart and unique personality. At age 42, she is facing a daunting diagnosis and needs help for herself, her husband Rigoberto, and their 8 year old son Mikey.
In March 2019, Susan Maldonado began having problems with her vision and she first sought treatment in the Emergency Room. This began a long and difficult journey. Her initial scans that were looking for signs of multiple sclerosis showed something much more ominous. The tests showed signs of a tumor nestled in the vision center of her brain.
After days, weeks, and months of tests and worry, Susan's medical team has confirmed that Susan has a brain tumor which will require aggressive treatment. She will have surgery to remove as much of the grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma as possible on May 15. This surgery will likely take a significant portion of her vision. She will then begin chemotherapy and radiation treatment.
Susan's family and friends are hopeful that the surgery and treatment will be as successful as possible, and that she will find a way to beat this tumor and diagnosis.
While a tumor/cancer diagnosis is a difficult pill for anyone to swallow, the financial hardships that follow can be equally crippling. We are hoping to raise money to help Susan, Rigo and Mikey stay financially afloat during the long treatment.
We are asking for donations to help with the medical expenses that will not be covered by insurance, including the high out of pocket costs.
Rigo is entitled to 12 weeks of unpaid leave through FMLA to take care of Susan and 8 year old Mikey. While he is taking care of Susan, the family will have no income, so we are asking for help to replace the lost income during that unpaid leave.
In addition, since Susan will be unable to take care of Mikey before/after school, we are asking for financial support to pay for childcare during this time.
During and after treatment it is uncertain whether Susan will continue to run her local business, Serenity Meadows Farm, which will add further financial hardship.
All donations will go directly to Susan and Rigo so they can pay for the medical bills, mortgage, food, bills and all household expenses while Rigo is unable to work while taking care of Susan.
Please consider providing a donation, however large or small, to support Susan, Rigo and Mikey in the short term as they deal with this difficult diagnosis and long road ahead.
My name is Tim Langlitz, Susan's brother-in-law. Susan is my wife Rose's sister. Susan and Rigo asked for my help in creating this fundraising campaign so they did not need to worry about setting this up or managing the campaign.
