About Us

Quran Academy for Young Scholars (QAFYS) is an Islamic educational institution unlike any other Islamic school that exists in America. It was created to produce influential scholars and leaders for the community. With this mission and vision in mind, QAFYS has been working since 2017 to change the lives of young Muslim students in New York City. QAFYS has three campuses with over 400 students range from grades 2nd to 12th. Students from 2nd to 5th grade focusing on the memorization of the Holy Quran, engage in learning core academic subjects, such as English, Math, Science, and Social Studies; above all, gain fundamental Islamic knowledge. From 6th grade till 12th, students take on our unique and comprehensive Alim Course; while huffaz also take on our Ijazah Program; all the while maintaining core academic subjects that align with New York State standards. Boys and Girls are in separate classrooms with teachers of their respective gender. Classroom sizes are small with a ratio of up to 20:1 (student:teacher) to ensure that each student can be focused on.

Qurʾān Academy for Young Scholars is an 11 year program where we educate and train our students to become future leaders and scholars who will be successful in both deen and dunya, in shā Allāh. The main focus in grades 2 to 5 is hifz (memorizing the Qurʾān), in addition to ALL academic subjects (math, ELA, science, and social studies), basics of Islam, and physical education. The main focus in grades 6 to 12 is in-depth Islamic Studies (7-Year ‘Alim Course which covers topics on Arabic, Hadith, Tafseer, Fiqh and more), in addition to ALL academic subjects, continuation/review of their hifz, and physical education.

Our mission is to provide an excellent Islamic and academic education within an Islamic environment to produce well rounded Muslims and strong leaders.

We seek to promote a safe, caring, and supportive environment where our children can attain the knowledge that would enable them to perform as effective citizens in today’s world of globalization. At the same time, they will be attaining such a comprehensive holistic knowledge which includes both spiritual and worldly knowledge in a spiritual environment rich with Islamic teachings, values and practices. We strive to have our parents, teachers, and community members actively involved in our students’ learning.

Our Successes

So far, we were able to produce over 45 Hafiz and 7 of which have completed their Ijazah with more in progress. We also had our first batch of high school graduates consisting of 5 students who will be continuing our mission by attending Umm Al-Qura University in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

Appeal

Our goal is to continue to expand. As of now, Qurʾān Academy is dispersed into three centers, two in Brooklyn and one in the Bronx. With our rapid growth, we are in more need of a proper establishment for our students. Currently our three campuses are not enough space to occupy our students. We want to provide a facility where students have enough space to learn, have fun, and pray. Alhamdulillah, we have just approved a $5.5 Million project to open a campus in Jamaica, Queens. This is a church that sits in the heart of Jamaica, Queens, NY. Our vision is to convert this into a facility our current and future students will be excited for. We are in need of more help than ever before. Hundreds of people believe in our mission and vision which is why our school is growing so much. Our tuition fees are not enough to fulfill our dreams. With your support, we can make our new project successful beyond our dreams in Sha Allāh.
