We are Teardrop for Heroes, a not-for-profit organisation supporting NHS staff or ex-military with PTSD, aiming to give them a well deserved respite.
What happens when the coronavirus pandemic is over?
I am a British Army Veteran who suffers from PTSD and while receiving therapy from a brilliant NHS Doctor, I built my first Teardrop trailer which I took camping with my family.
On the advice of my doctor, I started to realize being out in nature really helped to ground me and reduced my stress levels. This helped me discover the possibilities of creating a new life after trauma.
It was then I decided to "GIVE BACK" in the form of a Teardrop trailer /vintage caravan which can be used by NHS staff or ex-military with PTSD. So they too can enjoy the beautiful British countryside which will have a positive impact on their mental health, as they give so much but ask so little in return.
In November 2019, I attended a course in Sheffield with Social Enterprise Exchange (SEE) so they could help me set up a non-profit organisation. (SEE) helped me to pinpoint the fact that I wanted to create a positive social impact on NHS staff and Ex-military mental health, by giving them the opportunity to get out and enjoy nature. This would help reduce their anxiety and stress, which could lead to an increase in attention capacity, creativity and ability to connect with other people. The rest and recuperation well help to increase productivity which means more patients can be helped, creating a more positive social impact to the community.
Now I realize NHS staff are going through a very traumatic time. The NHS will need all the support it can get to improve the mental health and wellbeing for it's staff after this trauma. Staff are being asked to do very dangerous work with inadequate equipment, and this bears uncanny resemblances to resent British military conflicts. Thousands of soldiers now suffer from PTSD and no one was prepared for that.
This campaign is hoping to get a head start, by getting ready to support NHS staff who will be suffering because of the emotional impact of this pandemic.
I know I can complete this project because I've restored six vintage caravans, built two Teardrop trailers, restored two horseboxes, all this while suffering from PTSD. Restoration keeps me grounded. And it would give NHS staff and their families something positive to look forward to.
I currently have a vintage 1960's castleton caravan ready for restoration and a prototype Teardrop trailer. The funds will be used to restore the 1960's vintage caravan and any extra funds will be used to build a new Teardrop trailer, using the prototype as a template but modifying it accordingly. When this pandemic is over my idea will be put into action straight away.
This will allow NHS staff and their families to get out in our beautiful countryside, explore nature, recover after trauma and create some special memories.
I need your help now to make this a reality. Please give what ever you can.
