SCBA for WP Volunteer Fire Dept
Donation protected
On April 26th 2015 Willis Point Volunteer Fire Department member Brett Clarke hopes to highlight the operating difference made available by modern SCBA equipment by completing the Victoria, BC - Times Colonist 10K run in 50lbs of firefighter turnout gear and SCBA , including a 21lb aluminum air cylinder.
SCBA, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, are a vitally important piece of firefighters' equipment, providing breathable air allowing them to work in hazardous conditions where they are needed most.
Modern SCBA's utilize lightweight composite air cylinders that weigh half as much as their aluminum predecessors.
In a firefighting environment this weight difference can make ALL the difference.
By running the 10 kilometer race with the heavier cylinder, Brett hopes to get some attention and generate donations toward the purchase of new composite SCBA cylinders for the volunteer department.
All so that next time when it REALLY matters the difference will be on our side.
