You may wonder why it says "James Weiss is organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Christiana Kenney", It's because I am living in Poland and even though I do have a USD bank account GoFundMe platform doesn't transfer funds to me as long as I reside in Poland so I had to put someone I know in person from the US to transfer me the raised amount. This is James, and as many of you already know, I am crazy about the microscopic world. I will turn 30 on March 19th and wanted to start a campaign to get my dream microscope. I know many of you people love my videos and want me to make even better ones!
Just a bit more than two years ago, I bought myself the cheapest microscope I found on eBay, and it changed my life. I mastered microscopy with the limited equipment I had, created high-quality content, and received sponsorship for a new microscope. My book will be published next year. I am a partner of a fantastic show called “Journey to the Microcosmos ” on YouTube, I’ve been a part of so many art projects, music clips, museum exhibitions, articles, and most importantly manage to reveal the beauty of the microscopic world to millions of people.
Observing microbes has become my full-time job, and I recorded 1500+ hours videos, there is nothing on Earth I want to do more than collecting samples and checking them under my microscope. However, I am missing a pretty expensive illumination system that would expose details of the microbes, which I cannot see with the microscope I have. It’s called Differential Interference Contrast (DIC) microscopy, and it will allow me to capture life in a drop of water like nothing else. Check out this video that is recorded with a DIC system. And I decided to go big and start a crowdfunding campaign with some cool merch as a gift to those who donate to the campaign;
My first merch design based on water bear mating behavior I managed to capture, I was one of the first to capture this unique and adorable scene and prepared a sticker and a pin! Look how cute it is!
