- Hi, my name is Kayla Libby and I am fundraising for my mother, Mary Libby. On December 1st, 2023 my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. The breast cancer is stage 1A. My mother had a lumpectomy on January 8th, 2024, surgically removing the 2cm tumor that grew in 1 year. She just completed her first phase of chemotherapy, 12 weekly treatments, in June. She is now being scheduled to start radiation treatment. Radiation will be daily, 5 days a week, for a month. She still has a year of chemotherapy to complete, but treatments have been moved to every three weeks. She will also need to take some pill medications for up to 5 years, as her cancer has a hormonal component to it. Thankfully, so far the cancer has not spread. However, this is a long, ongoing process for my mom, with time out of work, traveling 40 mins one way, chemotherapy, radiation, medications, and ongoing treatment. She has had some allergic reactions, lower iron, loss of hair, and other side effects that have resulted in extra medications or tests. But, she is handling this with grace and humility. My mom is an amazing mother, grandmother and wife. She is strong-willed, hard working, intelligent, beautiful, and one of the kindest, big hearted people I know. Overall treatment is expensive.
