Help Eric Recover
On Friday, April 30th Ashley Renegar and her family received devastating news. Her best friend and husband, Eric, was involved in a devastating accident while on his way home from work. Eric’s injuries included a frontal lobe contusion, blood clots on the front and left side of his head, broken orbital bones, a broken nose, and a broken inner ear which caused facial paralysis. After several days of uncertainty, the medical team was able to stabilize Eric, though he remained in critical condition and with life altering injuries.
Over the next week, Eric remained sedated and relied on a ventilator to breathe. Every step forward seemed to be followed by two steps back. Ashely is probably one of the strongest, most capable, women we know but her resilience was surely being tested as she not only had to be strong for Eric but also for little Lu, their 4 year old daughter. Lu missed her superhero and couldn’t understand why he hadn’t been home to tuck her in at night.
On May 12th, Eric woke up. He was able to answer questions by nodding his head and track moving objects with his eyes. Friends and family have continued to rally around this precious family with love, prayers, meals, and support and Eric has continued his fight to recover as well.
With the incredible medical care provided and the love of Lu, Ashley, family and friends, Eric has transitioned to the Traumatic Brain Injury Inpatient Rehab Unit on Tuesday, May 25th. Barring any further medical set-backs, Eric will remain there for the next few weeks for intensive multi-modal therapy, before he is discharged home with in-home support services. We are so grateful that Eric is out of the woods, but his journey to recovery has only begun.
A couple of weeks ago, Ashley made the difficult decision to return to work out of necessity. With Eric unable to work, the family now depends solely on Ashley’s income to cover expenses. Even with health insurance, the co-payments and deductibles and household expenses are adding up quickly. Our goal is to lighten the family’s financial burden so that they can focus on what is most important- Eric’s healing. All money raised will go directly to Ashley to offset their medical and household expenses now, and in the future when Eric may require specialized equipment or care at home. Ashley is so humbled by the outpouring of love and support during this last month. She is grateful for all the kind words, positive vibes, and prayers. Let’s keep it going.
