Help Baby Kade Fight His Ongoing Battle
Our son, Kade, was born on November 23, 2024, at Almonte General Hospital. During delivery, he aspirated on meconium and showed minimal signs of life. Thanks to the quick actions of the medical team, they were able to restore his vitals and stabilize him just long enough for the transport team to rush him to CHEO. There, he underwent several medical exams, including an echocardiogram, which led to a life-altering diagnosis: Total Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Drainage (TAPVD).
TAPVD is a rare congenital heart defect where the veins that should carry oxygen-rich blood to the left atrium instead drain into the right atrium, causing a dangerous mix of oxygenated and deoxygenated blood. This condition prevents proper oxygen flow to the body, making immediate intervention critical.
Following the diagnosis, Kade was airlifted to SickKids Hospital in Toronto, where he endured two open-heart surgeries. While these surgeries successfully corrected his heart’s drainage, Kade now battles Pulmonary Hypertension and Pulmonary Vein Stenosis—serious conditions that require lifelong management. Pulmonary Hypertension is incurable, but with proper treatment, his quality of life can be improved.
Recently, Kade underwent his first Cardiac Catheterization in an attempt to widen his narrowed pulmonary veins. However, complications arose—his blood pressure dropped drastically under anesthesia, and he developed a severe case of Necrotizing Enterocolitis (NEC), a life-threatening intestinal condition. What was meant to be a short hospital stay turned into two weeks in the PICU, where he fought through yet another critical battle.
With incredible strength, Kade defied the odds and was discharged a day earlier than expected. We finally brought him home on Family Day, but our time together was heartbreakingly short. Just six days later, his health took another unexpected downturn—he struggled with his feeds, and a cascade of complications followed.
Fearing for his well-being, we rushed him back to CHEO, where he was readmitted through the emergency room. NEC had returned. He was placed on gut rest and antibiotics for seven days, and while he briefly showed signs of improvement, his condition deteriorated once more as soon as feeds were reintroduced. He was misdiagnosed, and doctors are now racing to determine the root cause of his suffering.
Currently, Kade is undergoing iron infusions, blood transfusions, and multiple pain management treatments while the medical team investigates a possible bowel obstruction or ileus. To make matters even more urgent, he is scheduled for another Cardiac Catheterization on March 14th—a critical procedure that cannot be postponed, despite the immense risks he faces due to his fragile intestinal condition.
Kade is a warrior, and despite everything, he continues to fight with remarkable strength and resilience. As his parents, we are doing everything in our power to be by his side through this unimaginable journey, but the emotional and financial toll has been overwhelming.
We are reaching out to our community—our friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers—for support. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help us stay by Kade’s side, cover medical-related expenses, and ensure he receives the best possible care.
Thank you for reading Kade’s story, for your love, your prayers, and your generosity. Your support means the world to us as we continue to fight for our little boy’s life.
