Friends I am starting this Go Fund Me along with many others to help our dear friends Andy and Jenny Collins through a difficult moment in their lives.
Both of these wonderful people have been a part of my life since our years together at Fickett Jr. High in Tucson, AZ. I have been lucky enough to watch their beautiful love story unfold over all these years. A few years ago I received a text from Jenny saying, “I am dating someone. I am not going to tell you who it is. You have to guess. I just adore him.” I knew instantly that she was dating Andy. How did I know? Every so often over the past 25 years Jenny would mention Andy - letting me know she had seen him at a game, the movies, or when he had stopped into Buddy’s. After she filled me in on how our friend was doing she would almost always say, I just adore him. She only ever said that about Andy and I am not even sure she realized that she did this so often. So, after 25 years when she told me she was dating someone and that she just adored him, I knew instantly it was Andy. They were simply destined to end up together.
Andy is a kind and generous man. He is known for giving the best hugs. You can’t be hugged by him and not feel a sense of amazing peace in the moment. He is also a beloved teacher at Sabino High School. The very same school he was once crowned Prom King. His passion, enthusiasm, and dedication to his students is reflected in the fact that students clamor to be in his classes. His classes are maxed out every year.
On Monday March 30 th early in the morning Andy suffered what was initially thought to be significant brain aneurysm. We were told that many of the people that present with the same symptoms as Andy do not survive. When he went into surgery on Monday to repair the bleed I don’t think any of us were prepared for the miracle we received. It was a blessing beyond measure to find out that the bleeding was coming from a vein and not an artery. This changed Andy’s prognosis significantly. The huge, scary, unthinkable threat was gone. Andy needed to remain in the hospital for at least a week as there was a fair amount of injury to his brain. He was being kept in the Neuro ICU in a dark quiet room to calm his brain so he can heal. Jenny was faithfully by his side caring for him, taking breaks to stay present for their 7 beautiful children ranging in age from 3-18. Just today (April 7th) we received the wonderful news that Andy was being released to continue his recovery from home. He will be on strict bed rest and not able to return to work until next school year.
We have been asking for prayer and so many people have been faithfully praying for Andy. Those prayers are being answered in beautiful miraculous ways. Thank you all so much for keeping Andy and Jenny in your prayers and on your hearts. Please keep them coming, they are working
Unfortunately, there is a mounting financial burden from the hospital bills and missed work. They have insurance but there is still a significant out of pocket expense and a maximum coverage. Andy is responding well and improving daily. Our goal is to help them with living expenses and hospital bills that they have already incurred as well as the continued cost of recovery. We are faithfully believing that Andy will continue to improve and that he will recover fully. Those of us that are lucky enough to know Andy and Jenny are blessed regularly by their kindness, generosity, humility, and love. They both give so freely of themselves. I am asking all of you to please show them a reflection of who they are. Anything that you have to give will help. No donation is too small. They are already saying that Andy is a miracle we would love to continue that faith and show them through our love and support what a God sized miracle really is!
