Passionate 81 year old disabled pianist's Dream

Have you ever had a seemingly impossible dream miraculously become a reality?

Hi, my name is Alex Marsh and I find myself being swept into the vortex of a powerful dream, which is to give a final piano recital in Manchester, Vermont, the village that kindled my most cherished and memorable early childhood experiences. Ever since being introduced to the piano, at the late age of 21, teaching and playing classical piano music has been the ongoing passion of my life! I well remember being shocked when told that a minimum practice time of two hours a day was required! It's now 60 years later and tens of thousands of practice hours later and this powerful desire seems to gain more momentum with every preparation hour. So, with urgency and loving gratitude, I continue to be driven towards this dream of playing some of my favorite piano masterworks by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Chopin, Shuman and Brahms in my beloved childhood home.

Urgency is needed because of my rapidly decreasing motor skills due to neuropathy, drop foot and weakening hip flexors. Originally planned for the Fall season, I'm finding it necessary to fast-forward the recital to this Spring or early Summer. The drop foot in my right leg is the main culprit because that is the foot that controls the important damper pedal which Chopin described as "the Sole of the piano". Presently, I use a hand brake in my car and walk with a cane due to compromised balance and lost feeling in my feet and legs. I have exhausted all traditional treatments.

Being semi-retired and on a fixed income, I'm presently reaching out and want you to know that I am fundraising to help me meet the cost of this endeavor. The projected expenses needed for travel from California, lodging, renting a hall and piano, videotaping, programs and announcements total $4750.
