Help Ava come home

Hi everyone, my name is Laura and I have set up this page to raise funds for my niece, Ava.

Ava is 13 years old and on 15th November, her life changed forever. She went to school that morning as normal but a burning feeling in her legs during the afternoon caused excruciating pain and she eventually lost all feeling below her waist. She has been paralysed ever since.

MRI's and angiograms have shown an unknown arteriovenous malformation in her spine. This is a vessel that has hemorrhaged into a sack, pressing on and damaging her spinal cord. Just before Christmas, we were told by specialists that this is unlikely to be reversible and she will be paralysed for life.

As you can imagine, we as a family are devastated. Ava herself has tried to remain positive, but that is becoming more difficult now she is facing what she feared most. We do not want this to limit her or stop her achieving whatever she wants to in life, but to do that we need to get her home and back to some sort of normality.

In order to come home, her house will need adaptations including, converting the garage into a downstairs bedroom/wet room, widening the doorway to get inside the house, adding a ramp for a wheelchair among other things. As you can appreciate, these things are not cheap. As a family, we have pulled together to try and support Ava, her mam, dad and younger brother but we cannot do this alone. We need your help to get her home.

Ava means so much to all of us and for anyone that has met her, you will know how kind and gentle a soul she is. It breaks my heart that the little girl who walked before me down the aisle at my wedding, will never walk again. If you can donate anything, even the smallest of amounts to help me get her home to rebuild her life and prepare for a new future, I would be so grateful. And so would her little army of boys, who all miss her terribly.
