Medical Emergency
Jewellyn Gerald (known to many as JoJo) is a bright and ambitious presence on Virgin Gorda. In the days following Hurricane Irma she got right to work, doing what she does best, chipping in wherever she could, and taking great care of her three beautiful boys. Although the home she was staying in was severely damaged, she strived on. Through the following months, the economic impacts were felt, and her employment came to an end. But, she still continued to smile and have a positive attitude.
With a new place to live in, and potential work on the horizon, things began to look up. Then, three weeks ago, she was woken by one of her children to a fire in the house they were living in. The house burned completely and they lost almost everything except their lives. They are currently being housed graciously by one of our local churches.
A few days ago, Jewellyn began to feel unwell. Doctors told her they would monitor her, and asked her to return in 48 hours. Much pain later, she traveled on a boat back to Tortola this morning, and it was determined that she needs emergency surgery this afternoon.
Having not had consistent work over the past few months, insurance coverage is a problem, and she now needs funding to help pay the costs of her medical bills.
This has been one of the hardest years of her young life, and through it all, she still smiles for her three amazing boys everyday and has an absolute attitude of gratitude.
Jewellyn and her boys would appreciate any donation you can make to help her overcome this next hurdle that has been thrown at her. No one should have to endure so little in so short a time frame. We all want her to get through this, and come out fighting fit and ready for some new beginnings!
