I am a heart-broken young mother, desperately/urgently pleading for assistance to help me bring my family of five children from Namibia to join me in Australia. I am pleading for your compassion and support. I miss my five children (aged 3,6,9,12 and 15) terribly.
As the world comes to a standstill with the Covid pandemic, so are my dreams of securing a brighter future for my family in this wonderful country.
I came to Australia alone in March to begin my newly acquired job with the expectation that my husband and children would follow six weeks later. We desperately wanted to provide a more secure life for our children, but the bleak reality is that what started out as a chance to make a positive change for my family is quickly becoming a lonely, unaffordable reality as my family remain in Namibia waiting to secure an affordable flight to Australia. We had planned this for so long. We travelled from Zimbabwe to Namibia (where my family currently wait on a Visa). We saved our funds for the flights but since the pandemic the cost of flights has escalated to the extent that we can no longer afford tickets for everyone.
2020 was to be an exciting and promising year for our family. I had secured a job in the health care sector in Cairns, Queensland. All the family members were excited and we all had travel documents ready to immigrate to Australia.
Covid 19 “threw a spanner in the works” as Australians would say. International travel bans were quickly instigated and now that we have Australian government exemption for my family to join me, the flight cost are now far beyond our ability to pay.
Recently I got exciting news that there were some airlines operating from Namibia and I could get my family into the country, but the costs were/ are exorbitant. The stumbling block has been that airlines are charging airfares that are absolutely unaffordable for us and we had not anticipated that a flight that was $700 would quadruple. The last quoted cost of flight per individual from Namibia to Sydney was $2800 with additional travel costs to Cairns amounting to approximately $3200 and quarantine of about $5000.
I cannot bear to imagine what my three year old son thinks as he sometimes refuses to talk to me when we have “Face time”. Our children are in the care of my husband but he is a father struggling to deal with a 3 year old toddler and children who miss their mother.
Separated from my family for 8 months, I have tried to keep positive, focused and functional, but the thought of this going on for an indefinite period due to airline costs is more heartbreaking than anything else. I shudder to think how much longer it will be before I can see my family again. At this stage, I would be so grateful if you could please assist me in making this dream a reality.
Please help me – a desperate mother, to secure flights to bring my family to Australia. We desperately need your assistance to be reunited as a family.
