For George... A Hero of WWII
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Amanda Younes. My Grandfather, the one this fundraiser is named for, passed away on October 21st, 2021. He was 97 when he passed, having been born in 1924, though his driver's liscence said he was 99. That's because he lied about his age when he was sixteen to join the Army in 1942 to serve his country in World War II.
He served until 1945 although, because he never could sit still, he also joined the Navy in 1947 until 1950, marrying my late Grandmother, Bessy, that same year. He had two sons, Glynn and George, Jr., whom I never met as he passed from leukemia.
My Grandfather was an eclectic man. He was an iron worker, having worked on the Mackinaw bridge in Michigan. He was an auctioneer dealing in antiques and he liked to collect and fix up antique clocks. So much so that there were clock parts everywhere in his garage and I have a desk and dresser in my room that I think are about 100 years old.
He was also stubborn. You never could tell him anything without him grumbling about it. At least my Father, Brother and I come by it honest.
Over the past few years, his health started to decline to the point that in the end, his body just shut down and my Father and Brother, who lived with him and were taking care of him, had to make the decision to let him go or not. My Father has been second guessing himself since, wondering if he made the right choice. And I always tell him he did, stating itnwould have been cruel to prolong everyone's, especially my Grandfather's, suffering any more.
I tell you all of this to give younsome backgroumd as to my request and the amount we're asking for. Because we don't know if there is a life insurance policy and because we needed to make the payment right away for the funeral, my Father and I paid out of pocket $7000. My Father is on a fixed income being retired and my Brother has been staying home to take care of my Grandfather in the last several months. I was able to help some but not as much as needed to keep us both steady.
Any amount is appreciated and we're only asking for help with the cost of the funeral. If you can, that would be wonderful. If you can't spreading the word is help enough.
I humbly thank you from the bottom of my heart and thank you for at least reading this long winded request.
