Scotties Road to Recovery
Donation protected
My name is Scottie, I am 23 years old living in Southern California. On the night of June 20, 2023, I was in a very serious car accident and the doctors gave me an unlikely chance of survival. The car I was a passenger in struck a large tree and my side of the vehicle took the brunt of the impact. After being transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center the amazing doctors resuscitated me and began to diagnose my multiple injuries. These include, a shattered pelvis, broken back at L3, L4, L5, broken neck at C1, C2, fractured ribs, broken spinal wings, broken left arm, broken right foot, injured spleen, punctured bladder and multiple abrasions and bruises. My family was told that I would need to undergo a very complicated 10–12-hour surgery and that there was a minimal chance of me surviving. Due to complications from the accident which included pneumonia the surgery was postponed and I was intubated along with my body being placed in a paralyzed state so that I could become stable enough for this complicated surgery. Four days after the accident I underwent a 10-hour surgery to repair my pelvis, bladder, and back wings. The doctors again needed to resuscitate me, however, through the power of prayer I pulled through the surgery. I was told by the doctors that I am a Miracle!
My recovery is going to be complicated and long. The doctors say my prognosis is undetermined but the goal is that I will be able to walk. Due to the seriousness of my pelvic injury, I will not be able to put any weight on my legs/feet for a minimum of 3 months. I will undergo acute rehabilitation to build upper body strength so I can move myself from a medical bed to a wheelchair. My family is working toward making modifications at home to be more handicap accessible so when I come home, I can care for myself as I continue my rehabilitation. Not only will they need to work on our home being a better fit for me, they will need to provide transportation to an aftercare rehabilitation for an additional 3-6 months. For now, I am completely disabled and unable to work to help my family with these expenses.
This long recovery process is going to strain myself and family financially, emotionally, and mentally. I am fully aware that the fact that I am alive today is a true miracle. At this time, I am asking for your support with anything you can spare to relieve some of this strain from my family. I understand that everyone is struggling financially these days so if you cannot assist financially, I would appreciate your prayers for a speedy recovery. God Bless and thank you!
