Save Lake Wanda

Dear Neighbors,

Our beloved Lake Wanda is in dire need of your support.

Home to countless species of fish and wildlife, Lake Wanda has been a prominent backdrop for fishing, swimming, boating, and birdwatching for over 75 years. A 27 acre lake located at the three-way intersection of Canistear, Breakneck and Wawayanda Roads in Highland Lakes, NJ, Lake Wanda and all its wildlife now face eradication.

When Hurricane Ida hit in 2021, the record-breaking rainfall resulted in immense damage to the lake’s earthen dam. A washout of the spillway during the storm has left the lake’s water levels drastically lower than its historical pool level.

A draining of Lake Wanda would be a devastating loss. Property values both on the lake and in the surrounding communities will plummet. Wildlife will have a greatly diminished ecosystem to sustain them.

We humbly ask for donations from anyone interested in contributing toward a positive resolution for Lake Wanda. The funds raised in this campaign will help the community hire an engineer to design a new dam, which is the first step in this process. Please consider joining our efforts to maintain the lake and its adjoining properties for fishing, boating, swimming, and recreational purposes - so that we can all continue to make cherished memories at the lake with family and friends.
