Moyo Village: Puerto Rico Animal Rescue Fund

In May, Moyo Village will once again be returning to Puerto Rico on a Volunteer Trip with a group of volunteers to assist multiple non-profit animal shelters around the island with their rescue efforts. Besides providing our assistance on the ground, we would like to present each shelter that we work with, with a substantial donation that will create a lasting impact for the animals in their care. Moyo Village believes that the animal rescue mission takes an entire community, not just individuals acting alone, and we stand by other organizations in their efforts to care for and find homes for their rescue animals. Our volunteer efforts, and these funds, are crucial in helping to solve the massive street dog epidemic currently facing the island. Please know that no donation is too big or too small!

Our main goals for this fundraiser are to:

• Give substantial monetary donations to each of our rescue partners

• Donate much needed supplies, based on our rescue's wish lists

• Purchase or lease our own home base property in Puerto Rico that will serve as housing for our Volunteer Trips, as well as overflow foster space for our partners

A bit about Moyo Village's past contributions: In 2023 so far, we have already hosted 1 Volunteer Trip (in January), donated $600 in monetary donations, donated over $500 of supplies, and flown 2 dogs off the island into forever homes in the states. In 2022, Moyo Village hosted 2 Volunteer Trips, donated over $2375 in monetary donations, supplied 9 heavy duty dog beds to our partners, and flew 14 dogs off the island into their forever homes. In 2021, Moyo Village hosted 3 Volunteer Trips, donated over $2850 in monetary donations and over $1200 worth of supplies to several partner rescues. Moyo Village volunteers also flew back 4 dogs as carry-ons to get adopted in the states, and helped fly 12 dogs via cargo. In 2020, Moyo Village also led a Volunteer Trip, bringing 12 volunteers to the island - volunteering with 3 different animal rescue organizations and donating over $1500. Moyo Village has also hosted several fundraising events (Miles for Miles - a sponsorship donate per mile style fundraiser, a Yoga Clothing Swap in Chicago, and a virtual yoga class) allowing the support to get 2 dogs adopted in Chicago and to send over 30 travel crates to Puerto Rico to assist with animal transports to other locations in 2020.

Our goal for 2024 is to be on the island FULL TIME, and this fundraiser will help us accomplish that goal, while also providing monetary funds to our rescue partners.
