Join us in making a difference
Please support the Institute for the Quantitative Study of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity (QSIDE), a research-into-action institute that leverages cutting-edge quantitative techniques to promote social justice. We are seeking funds for administrative and legal support that will let us incorporate as a 501c(3) nonprofit. Any funds raised beyond our $3,000 goal will go directly to QSIDE's core activities, described below. Additionally, once we achieve nonprofit status, we will launch a second (and larger) public campaign to support these same core activities, in addition to seeking grants from a variety of foundations.
Who we are
Established as an independent institute in April, 2019 by Chad Topaz of Williams College, QSIDE is the first cross-institutional collaborative of its type. Fusing the efforts of humanists, social scientists, and natural scientists with those of mathematicians, statisticians, data scientists, and computer scientists, we use quantitative approaches to promote inclusion, diversity, and equity.
We are researchers and practitioners from colleges and universities across the U.S. and Canada. We are diverse with respect to gender, gender expression, sex, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, national origin, age, religion, disability status, family status, socioeconomic background, and more. We are united by our desire to address social justice issues through a quantitative lens. Learn more about QSIDE affiliates here .

Our mission
To bring mathematical, statistical, computational, and data scientists together with researchers in the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences
To gain insights into inclusion, diversity, and equity through cross-disciplinary collaboration and cutting-edge quantitative techniques
To disseminate research results broadly
To put our discoveries into practice by building partnerships with people and organizations empowered to act
Our values
Social justice
Research and action
Self-critique
Open-mindedness
Rigor
Collaboration across disciplinary boundaries
Our core activities
Nucleate and support cross-disciplinary collaboration through grants to teams of researchers and practitioners
Build capacity for quantitative social justice research by training students and faculty
Disseminate discoveries through conferences, workshops, and partnerships
Recent high-impact research by QSIDE researchers

Data hackathon for a major U.S. art museum, including faculty and student participation (under press embargo; to be announced publicly in late summer, 2019)
Data science research on sentencing disparities in federal courts
Development of a mathematical theory of group diversity
Drafting an invited article for Notices of the American Mathematics Society, the most widely-read mathematics publication in the world

Every dollar you donate brings us closer to achieving our initial goal of becoming a 501c(3) nonprofit organization. Becoming a tax-exempt organization is the critical first step in a new phase of growth for QSIDE.
