Holly's Volunteer Internship

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Holly Cramer, I am a student at Florida State University double majoring in International Affairs and Political Science. Here at Florida State I am honored to be a part of the Global Scholars Program which works with Omprakash, an organization to connect volunteers with non-profit organizations around the world. The Global Scholars Program seeks to enrich students' learning experiences through 8-12 week summer internships at one of the hundreds of non-profits registered with Omprakash.

I am pleased to announce that I will be traveling to Cochabamba, Bolivia for about 11 week this summer to work with Proyecto Horizonte. Proyecto Horizonte works in the Ushpa-Ushpa community, a few kilometers outside of Cochabamba. All of the projects they do seek to empower the individuals of the region to lift themselves out of poverty through healthcare, education, and community development programs. What I love about this organization is that they are doing things differently, actively discovering and applying solutions that work towards sustainable development. They are doing this by closely listening to and collaborating with those in the community. Proyecto Horizonte is not acting on what it believes the people need, but asking the people what they really need, and what change they would like to see. For more information on Proyecto Horizonte and their current projects you can visit: http://www.ushpa-ushpa.com

In my internship with Proyecto Horizonte I will be working on multiple projects. However, my main focus will be on a program that is helping to expand the small businesses of local women by conducting business-skills workshops and finding possible venues and vendors to sell their products at. Another project I will be involved in is a community development program that works with the local youth in learning about micro-enterprises and developing business skills early on. It is my hope with this internship that I will learn about the role of micro-enterprises and micro-financing as a means for economic progression in developing areas. I believe that in order to better serve, I must first learn and that is what I strive to do this summer.

The cost breakdown for this trip is as follows:
-$900 approximately for room and board (about $300 a month)
-$200 donation to Proyecto Horizonte
-$300 to payback my phenomenal parents who have already generously covered expenses such as my plane ticket and never-ending support of my endeavors

Anything you can donate is very much appreciated and even if not monetary, your support is enough! I’m incredibly excited for what this summer holds for me and cannot wait to share what I have learned. I will be making regular blog posts during my time in Bolivia (May fourth through July twenty-seventh) so stay tuned as I’m sure you would like to know what your money would be going to. Feel free to ask me any questions. Thank you for even reading this and thank you for considering contributing!
