Quaaout Lodge & Spa Fire Relief Fund

My name is Colby Mintram, and one of my fondest memories as a child was discovering the joy of golf and undisturbed nature at Talking Rock Golf Resort.

On the morning of May 22, 2022, a large fire broke out at the Quaaout Lodge & Spa at Talking Rock Golf Resort. A beautiful destination resort and a major local employer owned and operated by the Little Shuswap Band. The Lodge is located on the south shore of Little Shuswap Lake on Squilax territory, approximately a 45-minute drive east on the TransCanada Highway from Kamloops, British Columbia.

As of the time of writing the extent of the damage is uncertain. What is certain is that the resort is a pillar of the local community and provides numerous economic and cultural benefits and this tragedy could not have hit at a worse time. Hotels and resorts across Canada are just beginning to recover from the pandemic and in BC the extreme wildfire activity of the last several years. Summer is undoubtedly the busy season in the Shuswap area which sees a massive surge in residents and economic activity.

I am not connected to Quaaout Lodge & Spa or Talking Rock Golf Resort besides spending many summers making memories on the golf course and at Jack Sam's restaurant. As soon as I heard about the fire, I immediately sought out a way to help. The extent of the damages and impacts are undetermined and I will ensure GoFundMe distributes all funds directly to the Little Shuswap Band in order to determine how the funds are used.
