Queen of Peace Athletic Association Baseball
Donation protected
Hello Everyone,
My name is Melissa Grasso, Treasurer of Queen of Peace Athletic Association. I am asking for your consideration on behalf of Queen of Peace Athletic Association, Eduardo "Eddie" Cordero Parish Athletic Representative, and our program's boys and girls.
Queen of Peace Athletic Association (QOPAA) is a part of the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO), a non-denominational sports league. QOPAA is a volunteer-based organization. The members of the board, coaches, and parents all volunteer their time to make this program work for the children.
Monday, March 14, 2022, Coach Eddie went down to our home field, Judge Moses Weinstein Playground aka Vleigh Park 141-33 Union Turnpike, Kew Garden Hills, NY 11367 at Vleigh Pl. to prepare for baseball and softball season. To his dismay, he found that someone set our Metal Shed (on the 3rd base side) on FIRE 6-12 weeks ago, burning all of our outdoor equipment up. Three sets of rubber bases, all of our rakes, shovels, three baseball liners and four measuring tapes to help line up and measure the bases and pitcher’s mound, to name a few. The only thing there was charred and melted metal. Everything has to be replaced, which will cost well over $3,000.00 to replace, if not more. That metal grate has housed our outdoor Baseball equipment for well over 50 years. Coach Eddie has been coaching for the Queen of Peace Athletic Association since 1993 but members of his family have been playing for the program since 1983. The program has been around for 20 or more years before that, serving the children of the Community. We dealt with some vandalism in the past, but nothing like this. Our community boys and girls need to have an outlet to exercise, learn teamwork, and have fun!
We will move forward and try to keep this Baseball Program alive. Any donations will be greatly appreciated.
