Queenz Cut Flower Farm Seed Money
Donation protected
Shanice Fleming is a Black farmer living in Troy, New York. This spring, she will open Queenz Cut Flower Farm, her first independent farming business venture. For the past several seasons, Sha has been investing in her skills and knowledge in growing and arranging cut flowers, and she is ready to put that work into practice for her own future farm. Without land of her own right now, she intends to grow cut flowers and medicinal herbs in several community and private gardens in Troy and to sell personalized seasonal arrangements direct-to-consumer. She will do all the work from seed to harvest to get the arrangements to market, including greenhousing, planting, harvesting, and arranging. In 2022, she is planning to grow flowers for a small cut flower CSA and build networks for retail and private event arrangement.
Sha is fundraising to help with start-up costs associated with starting a new agricultural business. Your donations will fund:
- Greenhouse materials
- Soil and amendments
- Seeds
- Tools and harvest supplies
- Workshop space
- Refrigeration
"My Vision for this operation in the long term is to grow cut flowers and herbs in the most sustainable way humanly possible using indigenous and traditional farming methods. I envision myself living and operating my business on land that I have purchased, increasing the number of Black-owned farms. I see Queenz Cut Flower Farm becoming a staple in the community, filling a void in Black representation in the cut flower industry and providing opportunities for other Black farmers to learn and grow with each other. I want my farm to provide healing opportunities for my people, creating space for Black and Brown healers to hold workshops and build community with people who want to get more time in nature within a safe BIPOC environment."
