From gay genes to gay penguins, the relationship between science and sexuality is a fickle one. Queer Science is a podcast that sheds light on this complex intersection between science and queerness.
What ways have science advocated for - and against - sexual and gender minorities? How are queer scientists changing the way science is done? How is research on sexual orientation and other subjects shaped by those questions?
Intertwining case studies, personal interviews, and audio storytelling, this podcast aims to challenge the current discourse of diversity in STEM to empower marginalized voices. Queer Science uses storytelling to explore the ways science may support or oppose the needs of queer communities, and to serve as a platform for individuals to share experiences as LGBTQ+ in STEM, their research findings, queer news, and more!
This podcast is hosted by R and Bri, two close friends who met when founding Citizen Science Club at NC State, the first-ever student organization focused on citizen science. Over the years, we have sought to create a world where science is more accessible to those in the margins by advocating for equitable and just public science. R is a current undergraduate student at NC State, and Bri has recently graduated.
This fundraiser will help cover all our start-up costs, including equipment, streaming platforms, editing software, and website development. If you want updates on Queer Science Podcast going forward, please fill this google form to be added to our email list!
