Queermark

Rationale:
Based on the Riddle Scale, "acceptance" of LGBTQ+ people, which is what many organizations and people have rightfully fought for, is still considered at the homophobic level.  Looking at the positive levels of attitude towards LGBTQ+ people on this scale, we can see that one can offer support, admiration, appreciation and nurturance.  

Queery 's 2020 National Coming Out Day Project focuses on those four positive levels of attitude where people can support, admire, appreciate and nurture those in LGBTQ+ and allied communities.  The project is called Queermark, and it is the “queercentric” greeting card division of Queery.


Goal:
Launching on October 11th, National Coming Out Day, our first official Queermark card is the "Thank You for Coming Out!" card with our own famous "Sticks & Stones" font and all the colors of the Progress Flag.  

This first card is designed to encourage people to show their appreciation and support for those who come out to them with a concrete and powerful message.  For LGBTQ folx who are ready, willing and can safely come out to friends, family, or co-workers, NCOD may be your opportunity (though any time you’re comfortable may be the right time).  For those in the LGBTQ+ community and straight allies, you can offer a caring and supportive note with our colorful card to say “thank you for sharing this important part of your life with me” to those who come out to you.

It can take a great deal of emotional and psychological work to come out to someone.  This project’s modest goal of $250 would offer 100 opportunities for those coming out to feel loved and supported.  With your purchase of our cards, you’ll have the chance to let someone know you care, you’re there, and that you appreciate being able to share that person’s truest self.

And while we have these cards available for National Coming Out Day, they can be used any time of the year.  Our cards can even be used to thank those who come out in support of LGBTQ+ rights or to support an LGBTQ+ event.  It’s a caring way for individuals, organizations or groups to show their appreciation and support to others.


Important Dates:
Pledge your support before September 30th and the cards will arrive at your door before October 11th, just in time for National Coming Out Day.

Imagine not only fighting for LGBTQ+ rights and acceptance, but offering the highest level of positive attitude towards LGBTQ+ people directly.


Pricing:
These beautifully designed "Thank You for Coming Out!" cards are $3.00 per card or you can get a set of 10 cards for $25.00. Due to limitation of GoFundMe not accepting donations less than $5, we will give you 2 cards for $5.00 and additional cards for $3.00 per card.


A note about the responsibility of giving someone this card: If someone comes out to you, they might not be out to everyone. This means that you may want to give them this card in private and have a conversation with them about how they feel about receiving and keeping this card.
