1993-96 India:  Traditional Indian studies at the Shivananda Ashram and Academy in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand state (formerly Uttar Pradesh); in particular:

3-year curriculum (Sanskrit language, Vedas, Hindu ceremony and astrology, Logic and debate) at the Shivananda Academy 

1994-96 initial acquaintance with Tibetan Buddhism in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh state

intensive translating of Buddhist texts, especially of the Kalachakra-tantra cycle, at the Mahayana Institute in Bodhgaya
