"Our Hero Draven"help Draven get medical equipment

Draven is an 11 year old boy who lives in Hawkinge, Kent. He is one of 3 siblings. He has an infectious laugh and is passionate about animals and cuddly toys.

He was born with Tofs/Oa vacterl (born unable to swallow) along with many other serious conditions that saw him under go constant operations and spend the first 8 months of his life in a London Hospital intensive care unit.

He was later, at the age of 15months diagnosed with a terminal illness called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) which has a dramatically shorter life expectancy and has so far already taken so much of Draven’s mobility and will continue to do so until he becomes completely paralysed. THERE IS NO CURE

They have currently been on the housing list waiting for a suitable property which has the potential to be adapted for six years. Muscular Dystrophy UK were an advocate for Jemma to try and help the Council to understand the importance of Draven needing an adapted property so that as a family they could be prepared and be settled. This came to a close due to the lack of response from the local council. They have recently contacted their local MP and are awaiting a reply.

Due to their house being a private rental, the Social Services OT are reluctant to spend money on equipment that may not be suitable for Draven in the long term. This has meant the family have been forced to spend the last of Draven’s fundraising money on a stair lift. This equipment will mean that Draven will no longer have to be in pain from forcing his body upstairs or be physically carried by Jemma, Joe or Jason and it will give him a huge amount of independence back.

Family and Friends are on a mission to fundraise to help the family. Jemma is exhausted mentally and physically and the stress in now impacting the whole family. She is mourning the loss of her son’s mobility as she watches him get weaker and struggling. She is terrified for his future, constantly fighting to provide a safe un restricted environment for Draven, having medical appointments to juggle around, caring for Draven’s present needs, trying to push on and be the family’s core strength and most importantly using the last of her energy to be best loving mum she can for her 3 children.  ❤❤❤

We hope to enable them to prepare for the future. To provide Draven with an accessible, inclusive home which he can happily enjoy with his family. An adapted bedroom and vital medical equipment. This sadly is not all provided by the NHS!

This will mean the family can then focus solely on enjoying what time they have together. Tending to Draven’s care and creating precious memories with Draven without the stress and worries of fighting for expensive equipment that Draven requires.

We cant do it alone... can you help... ??
