My sister, Michelle, has recently went through an unfathomable loss. Michelle’s dog, pet, family member, Stevie, was violently murdered outside of her own home on April 4th, 2024. A 21-year-old male neighbor shot Stevie at 1:30 pm in the daylight of a Thursday afternoon. Stevie was 30 lbs. Stevie was in front of her own house. Michelle was home to hear the gun shot and then sit in front of an armed man while she held Stevie for her final breaths. This situation is archaic. Stevie was more than a pet to most who knew her, she was family. Stevie, Michelle and Alyssa deserve justice for this cruel and unusual act.
For those of you who don’t know my sister and Stevie, Michelle fostered and then adopted Stevie through an organization in which she volunteered for. Stevie was rescued from the streets of Qatar and Michelle put in countless hours acclimating her to her new and safe environment. This came with many challenges as anyone who has worked with rescues may understand. Yet, Michelle never flinched, she poured endless love into Stevie’s life, helping shape her into the gentle, snuggly, sassy, intelligent dog and family member that was Stevie. Michelle’s passion for dog rescue is obvious to anyone who is lucky enough to know her.
This community continues to amaze me as so many of you have reached out asking how you can help at this time. While Michelle mourns this loss over the coming months, she will also have to deal with the legalities of the court system, move out of her home that is now tarnished with trauma and in close proximity to the home of the shooter and his family, and make end of life decisions for Stevie. We ask that you share this post and donate if you are able at this time. There’s nothing that can bring back Stevie, but my hope is that with the help of the community, Michelle and Stevie can get the justice they deserve. For transparency, the sum of the goal includes: lawyer fees, necropsy for Stevie’s case, moving costs, therapy bills and cremation costs. Any funds that remain unused for this case will be donated to dog rescues of Michelle’s choosing.
Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for helping support my sister at this time
