Help Drax Walk Again: Support His Surgery
Donation protected
Hello everyone,
Our dog Drax has been with our family since he was a few months old in 2015. Although his age (9 yrs) may reflect differently, he still has the heart and mind of a young puppy. (He still enjoys trotting around the house with his stuffed animal in his mouth).
In these past few months, we've noticed Drax begin to have a limp. Drax would limp after having an extended amount of physical activity, but after a short time, he would return to walking normally without signs of any pain or discomfort. We foresaw this as Drax just getting older with age and having a hard time moving around for longer periods of time.
Fast forward to this past month, the limping became much more frequent, and so we decided to get x-rays done to see what the underlying issue was. What we found out was that Drax has arthritis in both hips, back legs, and arms. Since then, Drax has had an injection for osteoarthritis, inflammation/pain medication, and hip/joint supplements. These remedies have definitely helped with Drax's energy and mobility thus far, but I know these will only place a bandaid over the issue for the time being.
This led us to bring Drax to see an orthopedic specialist, who told us that Drax has two torn cruciate ligaments in both of his knees and he's dislocating his knees almost every time he walks. It turns out that Drax is still strong in other areas of his body, so he has been good at adjusting to this issue, which shows how much of a fighter this big guy is.
The solution to help fix his two torn ligaments in his knees is by having surgery, where they will be correcting his knee joint by adjusting the bones to have more stability. The success rate for cruciate ligament surgery in dogs is high (85-95%) with a full recovery in 12 - 16 weeks.
After having vet visits, x-rays, medication, and a consultation, going forward with this surgery in the next two months will be financially hard. We are hoping to reach our goal ($5,000), which would greatly help us cover half the cost of Drax's surgery!
If you have met Drax, you know how much of a sweetheart he is and how important it is to preserve his quality of life and happiness! If anyone could donate ANYTHING to go towards his surgery, we WOULD APPRECIATE IT IMMENSELY ❤️❤️ Thank you in advance for any prayers, kind words, and thoughts.
