Lungs for Kathy
Donation protected
I’m excited to share that I will be re-listed for a double lung transplant at the end of April 2021. Yes I am now two years cancer free!! The first year after coming off the transplant list (after waiting 3 years) was a rough one physically and emotionally. The surgery was extremely hard on me and I stayed in the hospital for a month. After that I was two weeks inpatient with Cystic Fibrosis exacerbations every other month and at one point my lung function dipped to 17%. This past year has been so much better due to the miracle drug Trikafta that is now available for most Cystic Fibrosis patients. My lung function has stabilized at 20-22%, I am no longer coughing, minimal mucus buildup, I have a lot more energy and I haven’t been in the hospital since last February. Unfortunately I’m still on oxygen 24/7, have pancreatic insufficiency and stage 3 kidney disease. I’m still out living my best life as best as I can! Positive vibes.
The same as two years ago I am looking for assistance for travel expenses to and from University of Washington Medical Hospital (they currently don’t do transplants in Oregon), hotels, food, medicine and supplies and rent for The Transplant House for 2-3 months post transplant.
I want to thank everyone who donated during my fundraiser two years ago, it was greatly appreciated. The money left over was used to purchase a more lightweight portable oxygen unit. A special thank you to those in my inner sanctum in the trenches with me, you know who you are.
