R.U.H.F. (REI UNION HARDSHIP FUND)
Donation protected
We are the workers at the first unionized REI in Soho, NYC! On June 1st, REI cut our pay in an act of retaliation against our union organizing efforts. You can help by contributing today and signing a petition to help us restore our pay!
GIVING ANY AMOUNT HELPS
We shouldn’t have to fundraise for our lost wages. To start, we’re aiming to fill the gap between pre and post-wage cuts for the next three months. Your contribution will allow us to feed ourselves, pay our rent, continue to organize, and most importantly, enjoy our lives outside of work.
When you give...
$5, you match the pay rate cut for one of us
$30, you help a whole department
$50, you cover wages for an 8-hour shift of an REI-tenured employee
REI prides itself on values like: “We strive for harmony in work and life,” “We believe the outdoors is for all," "We go further together," and “We start from a place of respect;” but it is impossible to have a work/life balance if we’re working overtime to survive. We can’t enjoy our passion for the outdoors if we can’t afford to take a day off for camping, a bike ride, and day-to-day responsibilities. And it’s not respectful to cut the pay of over 100 hardworking, committed, and exceptional employees who are central to the company’s $3.85 billion in revenue (2022), simply because we want a say in our working conditions.
These cuts were extremely dramatic—up to 20%—with a disproportionate effect on our more tenured coworkers. We’re already living paycheck to paycheck, struggling to afford housing, food, healthcare, and basic needs. This drastic reduction in our pay pushed many of us to the brink of extreme hardship. A number of us cannot afford to eat anymore and must apply for financial assistance or find second jobs.
Please help REI Soho workers get back on their feet! Every dollar gets us closer to our goal, and weakens REI’s anti-union retaliation!
