RAISING AWARENESS FOR MENS MENTAL HEALTH
Donation protected
Jayne & Anita are doing a skydive!!!
Why you ask? Yes, we are asking ourselves the same question
We are hosting two fundraising events, a race night in the Soroba House to raise funds for our chosen charities.
And…..
A skydive where we will be asking for donations/sponsors
Ultimately our main goal is to raise awareness for MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH. To help reduce the stigma attached to mental health and addictions and to prevent more deaths.
Jayne lost her beloved James last year who suffered with poor mental health from a young age, to even get diagnosed was a battle for him.
Anita’s children lost their dad last year also, who again battled with poor mental health since he was a young adult.
Masculine Stereotypes Prevent Men from Seeking Help…. This needs to change! It’s ok to not be ok for men too and to talk and to ask for help and receive the help and support they deserve!
Government surveys suggest that men have less life satisfaction than woman and are more likely to use alcohol or drugs as a coping mechanism and more likely to commit suicide.
We are skydiving also to fundraise for two charities close to our hearts - Carr Gomm housing support and Oban skate park.
Carr Gomm supported both men, not only with housing support but much, much more whilst maintaining their dignity and supporting them with compassion and empathy, allowing them a safe space to talk and be themselves with no judgement.
Oban skatepark is an essential outlet that is needed for our community, not only for their physical health but for their mental health. James loved skate boarding and would have loved to be able to skate in his home town.
