Help Nicole Beat Breast Cancer!!

In May of 2022, my daughter Nicole resigned from her long-time teaching position as a special education teacher. She joked that she had retired and wanted to spend her time advocating for special needs families. She continued as founder and president of The Lellow Foundation, a non-profit organization that she established for kids with special needs whose families lack the financing to pay for their educational needs.

Just weeks into that first summer, she found a lump in her left breast, and two weeks later was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. Quickly overwhelmed with medical bills, Nicole met with her former principal asking if there were any positions open. It was essential that she keep her medical insurance given her recent diagnosis and growing medical bills. Her principal didn’t have any openings at the time, but two days later a position opened up and Nicole was offered a 4th-grade teaching position. She had never taught 4th-grade general education and was almost more terrified of this than cancer. She knew it was God who opened this door for her, so she gratefully accepted.

I never once heard Nicole say, “Why me?” I stand in awe that she works a full-time job, spends evenings and weekends working on her foundation, continues to work out doing CrossFit, and was going in for regular chemotherapy treatments. For most of us, this life regimen alone is more than most of us could handle even without the diagnosis of cancer and all that goes with it. On December 16th, she finished her 16th round of chemotherapy. Thank the Lord that Nicole’s tumor is responding well to treatment and she is scheduled for a double mastectomy on January 5th.

Nicole will be unable to work for at least six weeks after surgery and may need radiation. She will more than likely continue immunotherapy, and possibly hormone therapy for up to two years. The money raised on this GoFundMe account will help pay for medical expenses not covered by disability insurance, her living expenses while recovering from surgery, and potential ongoing treatments.
