Oak Forest Arboretum Restoration

Oak Forest Elementary has been an important component of Oak Forest in North Houston since its opening in 1951.  However, its arboretum and surrounding playground have struggled in upkeep in recent years.  As a Boy Scout in Troop 604 looking for an Eagle Scout project, I knew I wanted to give back to OFE. I was an elementary student there and have great memories of the teachers and my time on the playground with friends. I credit the excellent education I received at OFE with helping me be successful in high school and with my extracurricular activities, including Scouts.  

With your help, my Eagle Scout project will aim to rejuvenate this community space, by:

• Removing intrusive vines from the surrounding fence

• Laying new gravel on the trail system within the arboretum


• Planting flowers in the beds, which will be treated to fresh mulch


• Repairing missing or knotted pickets in the wooden fence   surrounding the student's vegetable garden 

 


Please help provide support for this important local landmark, and ensure that future generations of students can enjoy this wonderful space.  Any contributions you make will go towards funding materials, supplies, and future infrastructure to ensure the rejuvenation of the OFE arboretum.   I know with your help we'll be able to keep Oak Forest Elementary as a stand-out school in the Houston-area community.
