We are still accepting donations for Alan's "Memorial Cancer Fund" to reach our goal. His story is below as  we celebrate his life.

Alan White, “Pops”, “Dad”, "Grandpa" “Big Al" a son, husband, father, step father, brother, and a grandpa, born Ralph Alan White, September 23, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, Death; April 19, 2015 Las Vegas, Nevada. Al grew up in the Glendale area. He was a repo man until becoming a professional welder working for R.L. Hale at 6633 San Fernando Road in Glendale, California . He married in 1964 and began raising a family of two boys.

In 1969 he was a passenger in a serious auto accident where he received a serious leg and hip injury - breaking his leg and shattering his hip and pelvis on his right side. He took the brunt of the accident, helping to save the driver’s life.

After receiving an artificial hip, Alan would recover and work throughout the years in his professional career while enduring a lifetime of hip surgeries and replacements.

In 2009 (at the age of 65), Alan developed an infection in his artificial hip, but through surgery and strong antibiotics he was able to overcome it. However, in 2013 the infection returned and this time the antibiotics couldn’t knock it out.

In April, 2014, his artificial hip was removed to help heal the infection. He spent the next few months in and out of the hospital attempting to overcome the infection so he could receive his newest hip replacement. However, the infection just wouldn’t seem to go away… and then his white blood cell count began to drop. And his pain level quickly began to rise until he could barely move.

In December of 2014, Alan was admitted to the ER and was quickly diagnosed with very advanced Acute Leukemia . He would undergo two rounds of chemo therapy with no improvement. Instead the chemo devastated his body and he developed a fungal infection in his blood, an all-too-common complication of Leukemia and chemotherapy. He then had no choice but to go into hospice care where he  currently resides until he eventually succumbs to the Leukemia, the fungal infection, the hip infection, or some other complication.

After months in-and-out of the hospital and being physically unable to stand or walk – let alone work - Alan lost his job. With the loss of his job, with no life insurance, and receiving only his SSI Social Security benefits of $1,000/month, he lost his apartment, his savings, his car, most of his personal belongings, and his quality of life.

After accounting for Medicaid and Medicare benefits and his SSI income, Al has only $1,000/month to pay for his $2,500/month hospice care. With GoFundMe  we hope to fund Big Al's care for the last few days & weeks of his life, pay off his lingering medical bills, and most importantly to raise enough money to give Pops a proper burial. Alan has spent the last 2 years in-and-out (mostly in) of the hospital in treatments and in pain, and we hope to allow him the comfort and rest he deserves at the end of his life.

Big Al before he passed said; " thank you all very much" and we thank you for all of your donations in helping him  and our family during these trying times.

Rest in Peace with the Lord by your side Big Al, Dad, Pops, Grandpa. You will always be remembered and loved for all eternity.
