Help Cathy Walk Again

 Hi. We are hoping to raise funds for our mother, Cathy Bair  (formerly Durham). Cathy was a widow for 8 years before meeting and falling in love with Ron Bair, also a widower. They were married on June 18,2022.  Just two months after being married and looking forward to a great life in retirement, Cathy suffered a horrific injury while hiking at a state park on August 22,2022 in Wisconsin. Our mother fell off of rocky hill 15 feet straight down, upside down onto a rock ledge, hitting her head and tumbling 10 more feet over boulders breaking all the ribs in her body. She sustained compression fractures from T2 to T9 in her back. This resulted in the loss of feeling and muscle function from her upper chest, down to the bottoms of her feet.   Despite all of her care and treatment, she still cannot move or feel from her abdomen to her feet.

With the Lord’s guidance, we looked for some alternative treatment procedures. We discovered the incredible world of stem cell treatment. Fortunately, there is a world renowned company in Houston that is helping us. They will be responsible for harvesting, culturing(multiply them) then administering her own stem cells back into her body . However, the most important injection is the one in her spinal column, which because of the FDA rules, must be done outside of the US. Their clinic is in Cancun, Mexico, where she will spend about 7 to 10 days in treatment. The stem cells are the miraculous work of God that reduces inflammation and repairs damaged cells and tissue within the body. We are believing God to bring total restoration.

Following the stem cell treatment, she is to receive an implant in her spine at the T 12 level, known as an epidural stimulator. It is also another miraculous invention that is not being used in the United States, but has been implanted in various forms around the world since 2006. There has been a great deal of success with this treatment. It is our hope, prayer and fervent belief that with Gods leading between the stem cell treatment and the epidural stimulator that she will be able to walk again. We pledge to everyone who finds it in their heart to contribute, that we will work hard everyday to achieve this goal. The cost of these treatments, including collateral costs such as a travel style wheelchair, medical supplies and travel expenses for Ron and her is between $180,000 to $200,000. This money will be directly paid to companies like Celltex Therapuetics and Verita Nuero for their services.  We know how much our mother wants to walk again to experience life in general and the life that her and her husband, Ron, envisioned. Update

Last week our Mom was taken to the hospital by ambulance at 2 am on Friday believing she was severely dehydrated. Initial tests showed a massive infection bordering on sepsis. Then the admitting doctor noted the right side of her heart was struggling. After getting a cardiologist involved it was learned her lungs had multiple blood clots, some dating back to date of accident in August of 2022. Immediate surgery was started pulling out the blood clots and installing a filter to protect her lungs from future clots. Together with blood thinners this should protect her going forward. The bacteria causing her infection required to go home with IV antibiotics. Praise the Lord for the very good medical care at Methodist at The Woodlands and the power of prayer. Our Mom continues on her fight to walk again and this was another serious event that she has overcome in that journey.
