Santana Somewhere...

Hi, my name is Santana Burriss, I am a chef and culinary entrepreneur. I am raising money to fund my documentary series entitled "Santana Somewhere...". This documentary examines the similarities and differences of cultures throughout the African Diaspora. This aligns with my approach to the type of food I cook, in which I call Modern Diasporic Cuisine. My food has elements of flavors and ingredients that come from Africa, the Caribbean, and the American South (where I'm from). As I've been developing this style of cuisine, I've been able to recognize commonalities amongst different cultures of black people. Rather is the Gullah people from the coast of the Carolinas, the Garifuna people of Guatemala and Belize or the Yuruba people from the west of Africa, I've been able to feel a sense of familiarity amongst black cultures around the world. This documentary will also raise awareness of how important it is to preserve history and traditions that are slowly eroding across the diaspora.

I'm confident that this is a network and film festival worthy body of work. The monies raised will go towards producing two pilots that will be submitted and pitched to networks. Your contribution will go towards labor of the production crew, some travel expenses, food, staging of events, honorarium for guest appearances, and film festival submission fees.
