Powell Family Medical Support

Michael Powell,  son of Thomas (AMSA Executive Director) and Joyce Powell, was diagnosed with stage 4 chronic kidney disease in early February.  In addition, his younger brother Joe was also diagnosed with the same disease, although at much earlier stage of progression.  Michael is stable, back home and working on a home bound schooling program.  He is currently on medication to compensate for his lost kidney function and has been placed on the kidney transplant list as the need for a replacement organ is inevitable.  The cost of hospital stays, ongoing medications and the impending organ transplant process have been overwhelming for the family and will certainly exceed their insurance coverage.
